**Potential Tropical Cyclone 9 Update for Friday (9/13) at 12:30 p.m.**
UF is monitoring the progress of Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine. No significant impacts are forecast for the Gainesville area. Up to 1 inch of rain is possible locally through Monday. No changes to UF operations or schedules are anticipated.
In North Florida, heavy rains (2-3 inches) and any potential tropical storm force winds will be limited to the immediate coast this weekend. Adjustments of the track to the east will lessen any forecasted impacts. No inland county watches or warnings are anticipated, including for Alachua County.
A Tropical Storm Watch is in place from the Flagler/Volusia County line south to Jupiter Inlet. Tropical storm conditions are possible along this section of the coast beginning Saturday evening or early Sunday.
UF units with operations along the coast in the watch area (Flagler/Volusia County line south to Jupiter Inlet) should follow guidance from local officials.
At the 11am Advisory, the system was located approximately 280 miles east-south east of Freeport in the Bahamas. Max sustained winds are near 30 mph. The disturbance has not yet developed a well-defined center but a tropical depression or storm is expected for form later today. The system is barely moving, but is expected to resume a slow motion toward the northwest and north-northwest later today. On the forecast track, the system is anticipated to move across the central and northwestern Bahamas today, and along or near the east coast of Florida Saturday through Sunday.
Updates will be posted daily unless circumstances warrant more frequent communication.

The UF campus in Gainesville is on a normal schedule today (9/4) with the exception of academic classes. Classes resume tomorrow (9/5).
UF units with operations in areas covered by watches and warnings should continue to closely follow the advice of local officials.
No watches or warnings are in place for Alachua County. A chance of showers and thunderstorms remains today in association with outer rain bands, but only half an inch of total rain is forecast.
Extremely warm weather returns tomorrow, with highs in the mid-90’s.
At the 11 a.m. advisory, the center of Dorian was approximately 90 miles east-northeast of Daytona Beach, Florida, with maximum sustained winds of 105mph (Category 2). Dorian is moving toward the north-northwest near 9 mph and this motion is expected to continue today as it edges north of Florida tonight. The center of Dorian is forecast to travel near or over the coasts of South Carolina and North Carolina Thursday through Friday.
