University of Florida officials continue monitoring Hurricane Ian. Here is what we know today: Ian strengthened once again into a hurricane on Thursday, as it continued its north-northeast trek along northeast Florida. The National Hurricane canceled the tropical storm watch for Alachua County, which includes Gainesville, as of the 5 p.m. advisory. University of Florida officials continue monitoring Tropical Storm Ian. Here is what we know today: Ian weakened to a tropical storm on Thursday. Weather conditions in Gainesville are expected to improve today, according to the National Weather Service Center office in Jacksonville. However, parts of Alachua County, including the Gainesville campus, remain under a tropical storm watch, as winds are ranging between 25 and 35 mph, with wind gusts of up to 60 mph. UF Campus Operations Closure

The safety of University of Florida students and employees is always our top priority. Out of an abundance of caution, the University of Florida will be closed Wednesday, Sept. 28 through Friday, Sept. 30, because of Hurricane Ian. Only essential university personnel should report for work during that time. Additionally, the university announced Monday that classes and all academic and student-related activities, including online classes, are canceled Wednesday through Friday. University of Florida officials are actively monitoring Hurricane Ian. While some uncertainty remains about the storm’s exact path, here is what we know today: A tropical storm watch has been issued for most of Northeast and North Central Florida to include Alachua County.
