UF Campus Operations Closure
The safety of University of Florida students and employees is always our top priority. Out of an abundance of caution, the University of Florida will be closed Wednesday, Sept. 28 through Friday, Sept. 30, because of Hurricane Ian. Only essential university personnel should report for work during that time.
Additionally, the university announced Monday that classes and all academic and student-related activities, including online classes, are canceled Wednesday through Friday. During this time, all special events have also been canceled.
The university expects to reopen and resume classes and normal campus operations on Saturday, Oct. 1. Essential employees should check with their supervisors regarding scheduling. UF Health personnel and others at locations throughout the state should follow their local government’s guidance and check with their supervisors for information regarding reopening of their work locations.
Residence halls will remain open during the storm, and students who live in residence halls should shelter in place. Students who live off campus generally should also shelter in place. Additionally, the Southwest Recreation Center will open as a shelter at 6 p.m. Wednesday for UF students, faculty and staff and their families. UF affiliates must bring their Gator 1 card for identification.
Florida Fresh Dining will continue to serve the campus community during Hurricane Ian. Specific dining information will be posted on the https://dineoncampus.com/uf website by 4 p.m. today, with regular updates provided daily thereafter.
The Florida-Eastern Washington football game, originally scheduled for this Saturday, has been re-scheduled for noon Sunday, Oct. 2, in Ben Hill Griffin Stadium at Steve Spurrier Florida Field, the University Athletic Association announced today. The UAA continues to work with UF, local and state government officials to monitor Hurricane Ian and the newly scheduled date. More information about the game is available here. Additional information regarding Family Weekend will be sent directly to participants this afternoon.
P.K. Yonge Developmental Research School is also closed Wednesday, Sept. 28 through Friday, Sept. 30.
UF/IFAS personnel outside Gainesville should adhere to their county government guidelines on closing. Personnel in other UF programs outside of Gainesville should consult their supervisors.
Students, faculty and staff should not park their personal vehicles in campus parking garages, including UF Health garages, as those will be needed for UF Health employees.
