The University of Florida’s main campus in Gainesville will be closed on Wednesday, July 7 because of Tropical Storm Elsa. Only essential university personnel should report for work. Classes will resume and campus will reopen Thursday, July 8. Alachua County is currently under a tropical storm warning. We ask UF Health clinical and core service personnel to check with their supervisors as to whether they should report to work and provide support to the academic health center for emergency operations. University of Florida officials are continuing to monitor Tropical Storm Elsa. Here’s what we know today: As Elsa moves near or along the western Florida Peninsula through Wednesday, heavy rainfall may result in isolated flash, urban and minor river flooding, with considerable flash and urban flooding possible in the southwest and western portions of Florida. All classes at the University of Florida campus in Gainesville will be canceled and offices will be closed Wednesday, July 7, because of Tropical Storm Elsa. Essential employees should check with their supervisors. Classes will resume and campus will reopen Thursday, July 8. Clinical personnel and all UF Health staff in Gainesville should follow their prescribed procedures. Those on the UF Health Jacksonville campus and in other locations around the state should check for information regarding their campuses. Here’s what we know today: Heavy rainfall from Elsa will move quickly across Windward and southern Leeward Islands today, including Barbados. Outer rains bands will impact Puerto Rico late today and tomorrow.  Hurricane conditions are expected in the hurricane warning area in Haiti on Saturday and tropical storm conditions are expected with hurricane conditions possible along the southern coast of the Dominican Republic and in Jamaica. University of Florida officials are actively monitoring Tropical Storm Elsa, and much remains unknown about the storm’s path.  Here’s what we know today: Tropical storm conditions are expected beginning Friday in portions of the Windward and southern Leeward Islands, including Barbados, with outer rain bands impacting Puerto Rico. There is a risk of wind and rainfall impacts in portions of Hispaniola, Cuba, the Turks and Caicos and the Bahamas through early next week.
