Tropical Storm Idalia – 8/28/23 – Update #5

University of Florida officials are actively monitoring Tropical Storm Idalia. While much remains unknown about the storm’s exact path, here is what we know thus far: A Hurricane Warning has been issued from the middle of Longboat Key northward to Indian Pass. This includes Alachua County, west of Interstate 75. Eastern Alachua County, which includes the city of Gainesville, remains under a Hurricane Watch. Additionally, a Hurricane Warning remains in effect for Sumter County, and the inland portions of Hernando, Hillsborough, Levy, Manatee, and Pasco counties. UF Campus Closure, Class Cancellation

Due to Tropical Storm Idalia, which is forecasted to make landfall as a major hurricane, the University of Florida campus will close and classes will be canceled beginning at noon on Tuesday, Aug. 29, and continuing through Wednesday, Aug. 30. All academic and student-related activities, including online classes and exams, will also be canceled during that time. The university expects to make an announcement on Wednesday regarding the resumption of classes and normal campus operations. Tropical Storm Idalia – 8/28/23 – Update #4

  University of Florida officials are actively monitoring Tropical Storm Idalia. While much remains unknown about the storm’s exact path, here is what we know: A Hurricane Watch remains in effect for Alachua County, which includes Gainesville. Additionally, the Hurricane Watch for the Middle of Longboat Key northward to the Ochlockonee River, including Tampa Bay, was upgraded to a Hurricane Warning. Florida’s Gulf Coast, from Chokoloskee to the middle of Longboat Key, is now under a Tropical Storm Warning. Tropical Storm Idalia: Campus operations/class schedule update

University of Florida leadership and emergency personnel have met multiple times this morning to discuss plans and preparations for Tropical Storm Idalia. Leadership will continue to gather information today regarding the storm’s track and timing, and an announcement about campus operations and class schedules will likely be announced around 4 p.m. today.

University of Florida officials are actively monitoring Tropical Depression Ten. While much remains unknown about the storm’s exact path, here is what we know today: Tropical Depression Ten is expected to become a tropical storm on Sunday. Additionally, forecasters at the National Hurricane Center have noted that there is a “risk of rapid intensification while the system moves across the record warm eastern and northeastern Gulf of Mexico.” This means the storm could strengthen into a hurricane is it approaches the Florida peninsula in the coming days. UF to resume normal operations Friday after Tropical Storm Nicole

Dear Students, Faculty and Staff, The University of Florida campus in Gainesville will reopen and return to normal holiday campus operations Friday, Nov. 11. However, the university will remain closed for business and classes on Friday in honor of Veterans Day. UF Health and UF/IFAS personnel, and others at locations throughout the state should continue to follow their local government’s guidance and check with their supervisors for information regarding the operations plan of their work locations. University of Florida officials are actively monitoring Tropical Storm Nicole. Here is what we know today: Alachua County, which includes Gainesville, remains under a Tropical Storm Warning as of the 4 p.m. advisory of the National Hurricane Center. The center of Nicole had made its way to the northwest coast of Florida as of Thursday afternoon. The storm is expected to continue to move north into Georgia and the Carolinas by Friday. Tropical Storm Nicole – Update 4 – 11/10/2022

University of Florida officials are actively monitoring Tropical Storm Nicole. Here is what we know today: Alachua County, which includes Gainesville, remains under a Tropical Storm Warning as of the 7 a.m. advisory from the National Hurricane Center. Forecasters said Nicole has the potential to bring winds of 40 to 50 mph, with gusts of up to 70 mph, to Alachua County.
