University of Florida officials continue monitoring Hurricane Ian. Here is what we know today: Hurricane Ian has weakened to a tropical storm and is still expected to produce strong winds, heavy rains and storm surge across portions of Florida, according to the Thursday, 5 a.m. advisory from the National Hurricane Center. University of Florida officials continue monitoring Hurricane Ian. Here is what we know today: Hurricane Ian is a dangerous Category 4 storm with maximum sustained winds currently near 155 mph with higher gusts, according to the 11 a.m. Wednesday advisory from the National Hurricane Center. At noon, the storm’s eyewall was beginning to come ashore near Sanibel. Weakening is expected after landfall. Computer models show the storm moving at a slower pace.
