Southwest Rec Center open for UF affiliates

The Southwest Recreation Center opened as a shelter at 6 p.m. Tuesday for UF students, faculty and staff, and their families.

Weather conditions at the Gainesville campus are beginning to deteriorate. Members of the UF community who plan to shelter at Southwest Rec are encouraged to head there before conditions worsen. Food will be provided for sheltered guests.

UF affiliates must bring the following items to gain entry:

  1. Gator 1 card for identification
  2. Bedding materials, including an air mattress or mat

Other supplies to consider include:

  1. Reading material or board games
  2. Cell phone, a tablet or laptop with charged batteries and chargers
  3. Prescription medications

Please note that the Southwest Rec shelter is not pet friendly. Those wishing to shelter with a pet must go to one of the two Alachua County.
